All-Clad stainless pan
Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen have repeatedly placed the All-Clad D3 at the top of fully clad rankings citing tighter heat distribution edge to edge.

The overall winner, the All-Clad D3. On pure performance and longevity, [music] it takes two rounds plus a tie. The 600° oven ceiling, the consistently tighter heat distribution flagged by Cook's Illustrated, [music] and the long-term review pattern across 10-plus years, all point the same direction. It's the superior…
For most people, D3 is the best option. It's less expensive, heats up faster, and has that traditional shiny appearance.

In fact, Copper Core and G5 heat up more quickly than almost all of the 30+ brands I've tested.
Cites heating speed
For example, D3 is the most well-rounded collection.
Cites versatility
Graphite is highly conductive and lightweight, so these pans heat fast and are easy to maneuver.
Cites heat control, heating speed, weight
Copper Core and G5 pans pans react incredibly fast to temperature changes.
And since copper has a much higher thermal conductivity than aluminum and steel, this cookware heats up and responds to temperature changes more quickly.
Cites heat control, heating speed
I tested All-Clad Copper Core against the start-up brand Goldilocks, and the chicken browned much faster in the All-Clad pan due to the fast-heating copper.
Copper Core and G5 pans pans react incredibly fast to temperature changes.
For context, Copper Core and G5 pans boiled two cups of water about 20% faster than D3, HA1, and D5 pans in my standard heat conduction test.
Something like this handle, this is an All-Clad, they have sort of a famously uncomfortable handle.

Otherwise, the data is overwhelmingly positive.

Cites country of manufacture, durability, oven safe
For most home cooks, the cooking gap between these two on day one is smaller than the price gap suggests. The All-Clad is the better pan. The Tramontina is the better starter set.
Here's how to choose. If you want made in USA construction, a 600° oven ceiling, >> [music] >> and a set you'll hand to your kids, pick the All-Clad D3.
Across 3,800 verified reviews averaging 4.7 stars, buyers consistently mention two things: the searing performance and the heirloom feel.

This is a buy one set, lifetime warranty.
All-Clad D3 reviews going back over a decade consistently describe pans that look and perform identically to day one. Warranty claims are rare.
Both still cook well. >> [music] >> But the All-Clad ages slower.
The fact is, both All-Clad D3 and D5 are excellent options but choosing the right collection for you comes down to performance, design, and price.

Cites heat control
If you want precise control over your cooking, go with D3.
All-Clad modified the handle designed slightly with the D3 Everyday collection. They made the indentation much more subtle so your hand doesn't sink in as much. You still get a safe and secure grip but the handle is more comfortable to hold.

As you can see, both HexClad and All-Clad did a great job searing and roasting the salmon. The outside had good texture and color while the inside was cooked just right.

The fish didn’t stick to the All-Clad pan, but there was some leftover staining that took about a minute to scrub off.

If you're a multitasker in the kitchen and prefer more forgiving cookware, you might want to consider D5.
If you love the brushed, matte look, D5 is the only option.
Both collections are a hefty upfront investment, but the D5 collection is even more expensive than D3.

Expect to pay between 10 and 30% more for D5.
They also added flared pouring rims to all pieces and extended the flat cooking surface of the skillet by 30 percent.
Cites base and rim, size and capacity
Another major difference between All-Clad D3 and D5 is the exterior finish. D3 cookware has a traditional polished finish which is shiny and beautiful.
Cites surface finish
The water in the D3 pan started to boil after 4 minutes and 7 seconds.

Cites heating speed
For most people, D3 is the best option. It's less expensive, heats up faster, and has that traditional shiny appearance.
Lastly, steel is stronger than aluminum, so D5's steel core layer makes it even more durable and less likely to warp.
Cites durability, warp resistance
First, the thin steel core diffuses heat transfer which makes it heat slower but more evenly.
Cites even heating, heat control
Second, D5 is more forgiving. If you turn the heat up too high, it takes a little longer to react. The same goes for when you turn the heat down. This may sound like a negative but it gives you some leeway while you're cooking.
This helps you avoid burning food but doesn't give you the control that you might need for certain dishes.
However, because of their high thermal conductivity, Copper Core and G5 pans don’t retain heat as well as All-Clad D3 and D5 pans.

D5 heats slower and more evenly and is more forgiving, so you’re less likely to burn or overcook your food if you accidentally turn the heat too high.

Fortunately, All-Clad has listened to this feedback, and newer collections, like D3 Everyday, G5, and Essentials, have newly designed handles with a much more subtle indentation on top.

To match the Tramontina set, an All-Clad buyer has to drop another couple hundred on open stock. Round three goes to the Tramontina. The cheaper set is more complete out of the box.
The flat side handles get hot on long cooks. That's the most common complaint.

Cites oven safe, searing and crust
The All-Clad D3 is rated oven safe to 600°. The Tramontina caps at 500 with glass lids limited to 350. For high heat searing, broiling, and finishing in a hot oven, the D3 has more head room.
The fish didn’t stick to the All-Clad pan, but there was some leftover staining that took about a minute to scrub off.

The other saucepans and stock pots have straight rims that make it somewhat tricky to pour sauces.

All pots and pans in the D5 collection have flared rims, but only the frying pans, skillets, and a few of the saucepans in the D3 collection have flared rims.

Although the shape of the handles is the same, D5 handles are longer than D3. For example, the D3 handle on the 12 inch fry pan is 8 inches long but the D5 handle is 9 inches. The extra length allows you to keep your hand a little further from the heat.
Cites handle
With D5, you can choose between polished or a brushed finish.
Cites lid, maintenance, versatility
The brushed finish does a better job hiding fingerprints and smudges but otherwise it doesn't have any impact on cooking performance.
The lid handles are also different. Both are stainless steel and secured with two rivets; however, the lid handles on D5 are significantly larger and feature an engraved All-Clad logo while the D3 handles are thinner and smooth with no logo.
Lastly, it's heavier. The D3 12-inch fry pan weighs 2.8 pounds and D5 weighs 3.2 pounds.
Cites weight (against)
First, the thin steel core diffuses heat transfer which makes it heat slower but more evenly.
Cites heat control (against), heating speed (against)
There are also some downsides to D5's construction. As I mentioned, it heats up slightly slower than D3.
To illustrate the difference, I poured four cups of water into both pans and turned the heat to high. The water in the D5 pan took 4 minutes and 35 seconds to reach a boil.
Another downside is that D5 is less responsive. It won't react as quickly to changes in temperature.
This helps you avoid burning food but doesn't give you the control that you might need for certain dishes.
Made In performs most similarly to All-Clad D3 since both have an aluminum core, and both are 3 mm thick. Besides the shape and angle of the handle, there’s almost no difference.
Cites heat conduction
The G5 collection has a brushed finish that looks more modern and does a better job of hiding fingerprints and smudges.
Cites appearance, ease of cleaning
This collection is more expensive than D3, but the steel core slows heat transfer, allowing the pans to heat slightly more evenly.
Cites even heating
D5 heats up a little bit slower due to its steel core layer, and Copper Core heats up slightly faster thanks to its highly conductive core.
Cites heating speed
Normally I would say this is a negative, but this collection is thinner for a reason.
Cites durability, weight
For this test, I used a D3 pan which is All-Clad’s most popular collection.
